"Sourcing from China" is not one thing. The country's manufacturing is organised in regional clusters, each with its own strengths, and buyers who search in the wrong cluster spend weeks talking to traders instead of factories. Here is how the main hubs differ.
Yiwu — small commodities and consumer goods
Yiwu in Zhejiang is the world's largest wholesale market for small commodities: household goods, gifts, toys, stationery, accessories, packaging, textiles and seasonal products. Its advantage is breadth and speed — thousands of product lines under one roof, low minimum order quantities, and factories in the surrounding counties that supply the market directly. Zhoukun Group is based in Yiwu for exactly this reason: for mixed consumer-goods orders it is the most efficient place to consolidate from.
Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta — garments, leather, lighting, building materials
The Guangdong cluster around Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhongshan is strong in apparel, bags and leather goods, furniture, ceramics and sanitary ware, and decorative lighting. Foshan is a centre for building materials and furniture; Zhongshan for lighting fixtures.
Shenzhen and Dongguan — electronics and precision manufacturing
Shenzhen is the electronics capital: consumer electronics, components, batteries, smart devices and the supply chains behind them. Dongguan adds precision moulding, metal parts and OEM manufacturing. If your product has a circuit board in it, the search usually starts here.
Ningbo, Wenzhou and the wider Zhejiang belt — hardware, auto parts, electrical
Zhejiang beyond Yiwu is an industrial belt: Ningbo for moulds, plastics and auto parts; Wenzhou for electrical components, valves and footwear; Taizhou for pumps, sewing machines and moulds. Zhoukun Group's featured horticultural LED lighting is manufactured at an audited partner facility in Zhejiang — the province is also strong in LED and lighting production.
Shandong, Hebei and the north — industrial equipment and heavy goods
For machinery, construction materials, chemicals and agricultural equipment, the northern provinces often offer better factory depth. Projects such as water and cement plant equipment are typically sourced from these industrial regions rather than from coastal consumer-goods hubs.
How to use this
- Match the hub to the product category first; price differences between regions are usually smaller than the difference between talking to a factory and talking to a trader.
- Mixed orders across categories are best consolidated from one base — this is where a Yiwu-based partner with a warehouse and export documentation in-house earns its fee.
- If you are not sure which cluster your product belongs to, ask. Ten product categories — from horticultural lighting and healthcare to hardware, packaging and industrial equipment — pass through our team, and the answer is usually quick.
